Cocoa is suitable for growing in different areas of Vietnam and the development of cocoa is very potential. However, the development of cocoa in the past years has not fulfilled the expectation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. One of the reasons is the inadequate awareness of famers on pests and diseases of the cocoa tree resulting in the spreading out of pests and diseases in large areas and ineffective control.
The survey is conducted by (WASI) with 140 questionnaire sets to assess the current situation of pests and diseases on cocoa. The samples were collected and identified at Division of Plant Protection of WASI.

Results showed that diseases damaging on cocoa in Vietnam were diverse comprising 11 diseases in which black pod (Phytophthora palmivora) was the main disease and cause serious damage to major cocoa growing areas of Vietnam.
