Nguyen Van Long<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"section-title u-h4 u-margin-l-top u-margin-xs-bottom\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Abstract<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Monoculture and intensive fertiliser use in the cultivation of Robusta coffee (<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Coffea canephora<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0var. Robusta) and black pepper (<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Piper nigrum<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0L.) have led to soil degradation and increased disease pressure in Vietnam&#8217;s Central Highlands. To identify key factors driving soilborne diseases and threatening sustainable production, a soil and root survey was conducted across three provinces: Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Dak Nong. Soils were characterised by high clay content (51.2\u201362.0\u00a0%), moderate silt (35.5\u201346.0\u00a0%), and low sand (2.5\u20132.8\u00a0%), with a notably low cation exchange capacity (7.72\u20138.04 cmol<\/span><sub style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; text-align: justify;\">c<\/sub><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0kg<\/span><sup style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; text-align: justify;\">\u22121<\/sup><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">). The soils were strongly acidic, with average pH values of 4.51 in coffee farms and 5.45 in pepper farms. Despite sufficient levels of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), soilborne pathogens were widespread.\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Fusarium<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0spp. were detected in all samples,\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Phytophthora<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0spp. in 64\u201376\u00a0% of black pepper farms, and plant-parasitic nematodes in 67\u201384\u00a0% of farms, with\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Meloidogyne<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0spp. predominant.\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Fusarium<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0density increased with soil acidity in coffee plantations. In coffee, nematode density was positively correlated with N input, while in black pepper, N was negatively correlated with\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Phytophthora<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">. Organic matter and available K were negatively associated with\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Fusarium<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0in coffee but positively with\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">Phytophthora<\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0in black pepper.
