Main activities<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n* Functions and duties:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Propose scientific and technological research tasks and experimental production of annual and perennial crops on control of pests and diseases in the Central Highlands;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Implement scientific research tasks, experimental production and technology transfer on plant protection;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Study the application of biotechnology for the production of by-products to protect crops from pests and diseases and compost coffee husks;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Participate in the training and transferring of technical advances on plant protection;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Test plant protection products;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Identify plant pathogens such as insects, fungi and nematodes;<\/span><\/li>\n
- Supervise and train for undergraduates and postgraduates at Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI);<\/span><\/li>\n
- Perform other tasks assigned by WASI.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
* <\/em>Major research with high science sense and practical application implemented includes:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n+ Identify and control pests and diseases on coffee, black pepper, cashew and cacao:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Coffee: green scales (Coccus viridis<\/em>), brown scales (Saissetia hemisphaerica<\/em>), berry mealy bugs (Planococcus kraunhiea<\/em>), root mealy bugs (Planococcus lilacinus<\/em>), berry borers (Hypothenemus hampei<\/em>), branch borers (Xyleborus morstatii<\/em>), cicadas.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Black pepper: root mealy bugs (Pseudococcus<\/em>)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Cacao: termites, mosquito bugs (Helopeltis antonii<\/em>).<\/span><\/li>\n
- Cashew: shoot borers (Alcides<\/em>), mosquito bugs (Helopeltis antonii<\/em>).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
+ Identify and control diseases on coffee, black pepper, cashew, cacao and avocado:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n- Coffee: leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix<\/em>), branch and berry anthracnose (Colletotrichum<\/em>), pink disease (Corticium salmonicolor<\/em>), nematodes (Pratylenchus coffeae<\/em>,\u00a0Meloidogyne<\/em>spp.), algal spots.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Black pepper: slow decline (Meloidogyne\u00a0<\/em> and\u00a0Fusarium solani<\/em>), quick wilt disease (Phytophthora<\/em>spp.).<\/span><\/li>\n
- Cocao: Diseases caused by\u00a0Phytophthora<\/em> (pod rot or black pod, stem canker), and algal spots.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Cashew: shoot rot (Pestalozzia<\/em>)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Avocado: fruit black spot, root rot and stem canker caused by Phytophthora <\/em> and Fusarium <\/em>spp.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
